Energy CEOs call for end to renewable subsidies | EurActiv

Energy CEOs call for end to renewable subsidies | EurActiv

This article recently ran in Europe. It basically proves what many people have been predicting for a long time; the government policies aimed at replacing conventional power generation with wind and solar generation have resulted in very high costs with no significant reduction in emissions.

The simple fact is that if the conventional generators are shutdown there will be no source of electrical power to consumers (you, your family, your neighbours, your employer, your grocery store etc) when the sun isn't shining or the wind isn't blowing. When the sun is shining and the wind is blowing there is more power being supplied than required, which drives the price earned by conventional generators down below they cost of production, but if they shutdown there will be insufficient power when the wind and solar supplies drop. Conventional power plants don't start up instantaneously: when the wind stops the conventional plants have to be on line in order to pick up the extra load quickly or the grid will become unstable and power outages will result. Conventional generators are thus left with two options, operate at a loss or shut down generators and let the grid crash every time the wind stops.

If the conventional producers operate at a loss they will go out of business, like any business must. If the EU policies are designed to drive conventional power suppliers out of business they are well on their way to succeeding, but the unintended consequence is that the electrical power supply will become unreliable and there will be frequent, prolonged blackouts.

YOU are subsidizing the wind and solar generators, which provide intermittent power to the grid, with your taxes and utility bills. You're paying higher taxes and utility bills and emissions aren't reduced because the conventional plants are still on line. If the conventional generators are driven out of business emissions will be reduced but the power supply will be unreliable, with  frequent blackouts. This is exactly the scenario that was predicted by many qualified people when these policies were first introduced. Unfortunately, the media only told us one side of the story, and our environmental zeal has once again led us to spend billions without any appreciable environmental benefit.

If you seriously desire reduced emissions, check unbiased sources (i.e. not environmentalist) to see how much emissions have actually been reduced with the advent of all this wind and solar power. I think you will be surprised and disappointed in the results, which are far below the promises made to you. Then ask yourself if it's worth paying higher taxes and utility bills for this insignificant reduction in emissions.

THE WORLD IS COOLING! Even the warmists admit it! For at least TEN years, temperatures have  NOT been rising, even though CO2 levels have. Observations do NOT coincide with the hypothesis of anthropogenic global warming, which predicted that global atmospheric temperatures would increase in direct correlation with increasing atmospheric CO2 levels. The only direct evidence to support this correlation came during the short time period when both temperature and CO2 were rising. Now that we can plainly see that this proposed correlation does not exist, any objective assessment must conclude that the theory of AGW is not valid. So why are we still listening to the eco-terrorists when NOT ONE of their predictions have come true? Why are we spending billions of dollars to try to reduce CO2 emissions? Why are we ignoring bonafide, urgent issues plaguing humanity at home and abroad, and spending so much money on CO2? Crime, street gangs, drug wars, human slavery, child abuse, malnutrition, lack of health care and education, AIDS and many other problems are of much greater concern to humanity. It's time to get our priorities straight. Read more in Kids Before Trees, get it at Smashwords.com or any online book store.

Atmospheric CO2 concentrations have risen steadily over the last 20 years, but the average global temperature has actually gone down over the same time period. The forecasts/predictions of Al Gore, Paul Ehrlich, Michael Mann et. al. did NOT include a 20+ year cooling period. In fact, NONE of their dire predictions have come true. Ehrlich started predicting the end of the world in the 1960s because of, get this, the coming ice age! Now his crystal ball is telling us the world will end because of CO2 in the air. Ehrlich, Gore and their ilk have made millions from us, the dupes who believe their self-serving prophecies. Why do we base billion-dollar decisions on the fear-mongering of these Green Profiteers when the facts have proven them wrong in every case? Quote all the ice studies and historical records you want, the fact remains for all to see, atmospheric CO2 levels are NOT causing the catastrophes the Green Machine profiteers have claimed. It's up to you and I to tell our politicians to STOP wasting our tax dollars fighting a problem that doesn't exist.

The Power of Persuasion

The faux-scientists are at it again! They would like you to believe that the power consumed by 1 computer multiplied by the number of computers will indicate the total power that could be saved by turning off all the computers. At first glance that seems logical, but on closer inspection we see that it's not that simple, and not at all true.

An average North American home has an electrical service rating of about 22,000 watts (220 volts, 100 amps). A computer in sleep mode that is using 2.5 watts is using about 0.01% of the service rating of the home. The typical voltage regulation range of each transformer in the electrical distribution system is 5%-10%, so the equipment supplying the power to your home is not even able to measure the tiny change in current draw or voltage associated with your computer. Since the change in power is too small to measure, the generating equipment does NOT cut back and emissions are NOT reduced.

This holds true regardless of the number of homes considered, because it is based on a percentage of power supplied and used. Even if you look at a million home computers, the power used is still only about 0.01% of the power supplied, and the range of control of the electrical distribution equipment is still 5%-10%.

Don't believe everything you hear, check out the truth of this for yourself. Then start checking the things that we're told by the news media and environmental lobby groups that are making billions of dollars off of you and I and every other tax payer and consumer. You may be very surprised at what you find. To learn more, read Kids Before Trees, get it online at Smashwords.com or any e-book store.

Hmm, the European economy is in crisis, yet they are cutting back the peace fund in Northern Ireland! No money for peace-but lots of money for ethanol, even though ethanol production and use actually INCREASES emissions and hydrocarbon consumption! Don't believe it? Well, if you could get more energy from ethanol than it takes to produce it then everybody would be doing it. It would be an endless supply of free energy, yet no one is doing it! Since it takes more energy to produce than it yields, hydrocarbon consumption and therefore emissions must increase.

It's a simple fact, and if you think about it you will see the logic. So why haven't we been told this? Why are we told just the opposite? Makes you think, doesn't it. We must wonder why we have money to subsidize ethanol production but not to promote peace. It's time to start asking our environmental leaders some hard questions, and to get out priorities straight. Brussels mandates roll-out of electric-car 'recharging points' | EurActiv

More Lunacy! Ten BILLION Euros, that's almost 15 BILLION DOLLARS!! To build recharging stations for electric cars that no one will ever buy!!

Why, it's only TEN BILLION EUROS!! A paltry sum to build facilities for cars that no one will ever buy-willingly. We'll simply have to FORCE people to buy electric cars! After all, generating electricity doesn't produce any CO2!! And, electricity only costs the consumer 5-10 times more per unit of energy than gas! Oh, and hydrogen, the perfect fuel! Except for the minor difficulty that it takes more energy to produce the hydrogen than you get from it; so using hydrogen actually INCREASES emissions!! Who elects these gov'ts?

Meanwhile, young children are sold into sex slavery, or orphaned by AIDS, left to die for lack of simple medicine, recruited into child soldiery, malnourished, uneducated...

This is a note I sent to an environmentalist.
Mr. Tarbuck, your zeal and conscience are commendable. But, the Earth is actually in damn good shape, things aren't nearly as bad as some would have us believe. Likewise, the human populace in general has never been more prosperous or peaceful. Yes, we still have problems, but throughout human history things have never been better, and we can be proud of that.
Yet, many innocents still suffer unnecessarily. Saddest is the plight of innocent children who lack basic nutrition, medicine and education. Even worse is the plight of the hundreds of thousands who are exploited and abused. These kids need our help, and just a few crumbs from the trillions of dollars we waste on CO2 reductions could save millions of these poor waifs. I pray you start to count the blessings we have, and channel your moral outrage to help these kids who cannot help themselves.
